“Teacher, it’s good to learn to care for each other.”

This was a recent comment from a student, as we continue to teach our theme this semester: Advancing Together. The children are realizing how instrumental it is to be a friend who cares, asks questions, and considers others as well as themselves.
Other results we have seen include a greater mixing of age groups in the playground, and the emergence of a peer led dance group. We have also created a new devotional time called Connection with God.
Showing Results
Music lessons are a part of our curriculum at CBC for all students. In the first two years, 2nd- and 3rd-graders study music in a broad sense, exploring rhythm, sounds, timing, notes, and tone. They use their voices, percussion instruments, and boomwhackers.

From 4th grade, they are invited to show interest in the instruments we have. Guitar is a common choice, and this year we have been impressed with the progression of older students who recently performed during a chapel service and at our Mothers Day Party.
June Prayer / Praise
Kaleb continues to improve, he has a broken leg and several other injuries but he is singing, talking and recovering well. Praise God for this miracle.
Pray for single mothers with no steady stream of income.

Dimensions of Poverty – INCOME
As we continue to consider the different dimensions of poverty throughout the year. This month’s theme is INCOME. The north-east of Brazil is the lowest earning region of the country, but this is not matched with a lower cost of living.
50% of the population living in the northeast of Brazil are considered to be in poverty. Extreme poverty is considered as those with an income of less than $2.15/day.
Most of our students come from households earning less than the minimum wage. Commonly, income is unsteady because it is informal and inconsistent.
